S & S Longhorn Co. is owned and operated by the Sisum family from their 25-acre plot in Blairsville, Georgia. Scot and Sarah and their three children, Jeremy, Gage, and Elli, all pitch in to make S&S a fully-functional family farm and business, with an emphasis on family.
Scot and Sarah already knew a thing or two about cattle before they started raising Longhorn, since they had raised Angus cattle for meat. And they had already succeeded in business as well. Scot founded a thriving directional drilling business in 1998, and he still runs it with his two sons. Sarah started Cozy Cove Realty in 2002 to help people buy, sell, and rent in the North Georgia mountains she and her family love so much. But the Sisums wanted something they could all do together. Scot and Sarah were dedicated to teaching their children about the values of hard work and living from and on the land. Breeding and raising Longhorn on their own home property seemed like the perfect fit. The Sisum family fell in love with the varied colorations, the docile shyness, and, of course, the long horns of the Longhorn. Scot and Sarah also liked that the demand for Longhorns was more about the quality of the animal than its meat. They had always cared for their Angus steers better than the market demanded, and that extra level of care simply didn’t make business sense—after all, Angus steers were destined for the slaughterhouse. But people rarely buy Longhorns for meat, and that means that Longhorn buyers appreciate (and notice) the Sisums’ detailed attention to every aspect of Longhorn care and life. Every member of the family helps out at S&S Longhorn, even 10-year-old Elli. She learned to operate the track hoe to fence in the family plot. And, every day, she makes sure her beautiful bovines are getting all the food and water they need. Around 5:30pm, the whole herd comes calling, knowing Elli won’t let them down. From breeding to calving to feeding to grooming, the Sisum family are working together to bring you the finest, rarest, and healthiest Longhorn around. And if they treat their animals like this, you can be sure you’ll be treated like family too.
